Noise survey for material hoists operation

 

1.         Location

 

1.1       The noise survey for material hoists operation was carried out in the existing temporary Wholesale Fish Market at Sam Shing Estate.

 

2.         Date and Time

 

2.1       The noise survey was carried out on 19 Jan. 2001 between 13:00 to 14:00.

 

3.         Personnel

 

3.1       Mr. Gary Yim (Scientific Officer)

 

4.         Instrumentation

 

4.1       Type 1 sound level meter, SLM (Rion NA27) and Calibrator (Rion NC73) were used to perform the noise survey.

 

5.         Weather Conditions

 

5.1       The weather condition was fine and sunny, at temperature 24oC.

 

6.         Survey Procedure

 

6.1       The SLM was placed at a height of 1.2m above ground surface.  The SLM was positioned at a place with no sound reflecting objects in its vicinity.  The dormant noise emission is from the electrical driven hydraulics pump.

 

6.2       The SLM was positioned at 3 sides of the material hoist, at a distance 1m away the material hoists (see noise survey record sheets attached).

 

6.3       The SLM was calibrated immediately prior to and following each noise measurement.

 

6.4              Four sets of result were collected during the noise survey period.  The noise equivalent level (Leq) were recorded and converted to the sound power level using the following equation:

 

Leq = Lw - 20log r – 8

 

where:

Leq is the equivalent sound pressure level, dB reference to 2 x 10-5Pa

Lw is the sound power level of the source, dB(A)

r is the slant distance between noise source and the receiver (m)

 

6.5       The noise survey record sheets are attached.
