8                     terrEstrial ecology

Introduction

8.1               In accordance with the EIA findings of this project, the proposed development would not result in adverse impact on terrestrial ecological resources during both construction and operation phases. All directly impacted habitats under this project would be restricted to developed area and wasteland habitat of very low ecological importance. Only removal of individual trees of common species would be resulted and such impact would be mitigated by measures such as tree transplantation and compensatory planting. Potential disturbance impact to the nearby habitats and associated wildlife during construction phase is considered temporary and minimal in nature.  Mitigation measures have been proposed to avoid, minimise and compensate for identified ecological impacts. Details are listed in the implementation schedule given in Appendix A.

Monitoring and Audit Requirements

8.2               With implementation of the proposed mitigation measures, potential ecological impacts on the existing terrestrial resources are considered as very low. Therefore, no specific monitoring programme on terrestrial ecology would be required under this Project. However, regular environmental site audits should be carried out to ensure that the recommended mitigation measures are implemented properly (see Section 14 of this Manual).
