OUR NEW AND IMPROVED SERVICES
The Environment Bureau and Environmental Protection Department (ENB & EPD) have been adopting a customer-oriented approach in providing best quality services to the public and the business community. Our key new and improved services for 2010 include the following:
- All 41 gazetted beaches met the Water Quality Objective for the first time in 2010, since EPD's beach water monitoring began in 1986.

- Two public recreation parks, Ngau Chi Wan Park and Jordan Valley Park, built respectively on the restored Ngau Chi Wan Landfill and Jordan Valley Landfill, were fully commissioned. The former provides an archery field, jogging track, elderly fitness corners, children's play areas and basketball court, while the latter features a radio-controlled model car racing circuit, horticultural education centre, community garden, children's play area, elderly exercise corner and jogging track.

The Environmental Campaign Committee collaborated with The Climate Group (Hong Kong) Limited and RoadShow Media Limited to launch and publicise the Climate FootPRINT Book Series, which consists of four publications with themes of New Green Generation, Low Carbon Economy, Environmentally Friendly Households and Green City Life. The series is targeted specifically at youngsters, business sector, homemakers and working class to help mitigate climate change through collective effort of society and to encourage the public to actively practise low carbon living. |

- The Programme on Source Separation of Domestic Waste reached the target of 80 per cent population coverage, as laid out in the Policy Framework for the Management of Municipal Solid Waste (2005-2014). 1 637 housing estates / residential buildings and 700 rural villages are enrolled in the Programme.

The Environment and Conservation Fund financially supported St James' Settlement to set up and implement the WEEE GO GREEN programme in the recycling centre at EcoPark in Tuen Mun on a 3-year basis. Under the programme, used home appliances will either be refurbished for delivery to needy families or dismantled to recover reusable and recyclable materials. |

- The Buildings Energy Efficiency Ordinance was enacted to mandate the compliance with codes of practice promulgated by the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department concerning the energy efficiency of four types of buildings services installations and energy audits. These installations are air-conditioning, electrical, lifts and escalators and lighting installations. In the first decade after its implementation, the Ordinance is expected to result in energy savings of 2.8 billion kWh for new buildings, which will contribute to a reduction in carbon dioxide emission of 1.96 million tonnes.
