Relative Significance

As FSP is a fraction of RSP, they share similar emission sources and emission trends. Between 1997 and 2015, FSP emissions decreased by 68%.  Navigation, other combustion and biomass burning sectors were the top three sources of FSP emissions, accounting for 39%, 17% and 14% of total FSP emissions in 2015, respectively.

Similar to RSP, FSP levels measured at the EPD's general air quality monitoring stations did not follow very closely with the FSP emission trend, indicating that the ambient FSP originates from both local and regional emission sources.
