Public electricity generation was the major source of NOx emissions. It contributed to 46 % of the total emission in 2007. Since the implementation of low NOx burner programme at coal-fired power generating units in 1993, the emission had reduced drastically. The increase in 2003 and 2004 was due to the increased power generation from coal-fired units. Since 2005, emission caps had been set in licences of power companies. The emissions in 2007 increased by 7% from 2006 due to the increased use of coal-fired generating units.
