7.
IMPLEMENTATION
Implementation
of the Remediation Action Plan can start once the CAR and
RAP submissions are approved by the EPD. The essential steps
involved in two of the remediation options are illustrated
in Figure 7.1 and 7.2. If floating oil is present, it should
be removed using recovery trenches or wells before implementing
a remediation option (see Table 5.1 and Annex C). Since actual
site construction work is usually carried out by experienced
contractors, these flow diagrams aim to provide general guidance
for the project proponent on the major steps involved. In
all cases, contaminated soil that is removed, treated or disposed
of must be managed in an environmentally sound manner. This
includes compliance with all relevant legislation and Government
requirements. Additionally, records such as any required transport
records, analytical reports, and soil disposal records should
be properly kept. The reader should also refer to Section
8 for the health and safety measures to be adopted during
remediation work.

Soil Venting/Air Sparging
The
essential steps involved in the implementation of the soil
venting/air sparging option are given in Figure 7.1. A more
detailed description of this option is in Annex D.
