8.2 Safety Measures

Basic safety measures for site investigation and remediation include:

i) set up a list of safety measures for workers;

ii) provide training and written information on safety for workers;

iii) keep a log-book with marking of contaminated zones and "clean zones";

iv) maintain a hygienic working environment;

v) prevent the generation of dust;

vi) provide first aid materials and training;

vii) provide protective clothing (e.g. chemical resistant jackboots, liquid tight gloves); and

viii) provide face and respiratory protection.

Depending on the toxicity and inflammability of the contaminants, precautions in addition to the above may need to be adopted.
