Chemical Waste Control

Controls under the Waste Disposal Ordinance (Cap. 354) have been fully implemented for the proper management of chemical waste in Hong Kong since 1993.

Chemical waste producers

  • Chemical waste producers are required to register with the Environmental Protection Department before engaging in activities that produce chemical waste

  • Chemical waste should be properly packed and labelled, and stored in a safe manner prior to collection and disposal.

 

Waste Collectors

  • All movements of chemical waste should be accompanied by "trip-ticket" forms for monitoring and record purpose.

  • Only licensed waste collectors should transport chemical waste.

 

Treatment/Disposal Facilities

  • Treatment and disposal (including reprocessing and recycling of chemical waste should be carried out at licensed facilities.
