The Lunar Year End Recycling Campaign 2007
Before a year ends, most people are used to clean up their homes thoroughly and dispose of their residential sundries to welcome the new year. In 2006, EPD launched a "Recycle to Clean, Making New Year Green" Recycling Campaign which was well received by the public. In view of this, the EPD is launching the Recycling Campaign again this year. Housing estates are encouraged to strengthen their waste recovery activities for their residents by making use of the waste separation facilities set up in the estate to recover reusable/recyclable materials. Reusable/recyclable materials recovered (such as waste paper, plastics, metals, books, old clothes, old toys, computers, electrical and electronic appliances and rechargeable battery etc.) can be collected for resale to recyclers or donated to charitable organizations through the property management company or the cleansing service contractor of the housing estate. So far, more than 600 housing estates/residential buildings have joined the Recycling Campaign (please refer to list of participating estate).
For outlets of reusable/recyclable materials, you may refer to the Non-exhaustive List of Plastic Recyclable Collectors which provide collection service for housing estates/buildings, Directory of Recovery / Recycling Companies for a detailed list of recovery / recycling companies in Hong Kong, and information on Collection of Used Items. There are 13 Refuse Transfer Stations under EPD which will also be opened to the public for the collection of recyclable or reusable materials for the period from 11 February to 17 February 2007. If your housing estate has any problems in finding outlets for recyclable or reusable materials, you could deliver them to the nearest refuse transfer station for reuse or recycling.
Housing estates/residential buildings may request for Publicity Materials from EPD or download it on your own in order to promote the Recycling Campaign to your residents.
At the same time, EPD is encouraging housing estates to join the "Programme on Source Separation of Domestic Waste". This is to facilitate residents to separate waste at source by providing waste separation facilities on each building floor, and broaden the types of recyclables to be recovered to further increase waste recovery quantity and reduce waste. In addition, 3-coloured waste separation bins and used clothes recycling boxes are placed in various locations set up by the Government for the public use.
