Workshop on Environmental Monitoring and Risk Assessment of Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs)

An action item in the HKSAR Implementation Plan for the Stockholm Convention is to strengthen regional collaboration with the Mainland, especially the Pearl River Delta, in the effective management of environmental POPs in the region. The Environmental Protection Department organized a workshop "Environmental Monitoring and Risk Assessment of POPs" held in the Hong Kong Museum of History on November 23-25, 2006. Invited participants include government officials from the Mainland and Macau SAR, scientists and scholars, and relevant HKSAR government departments.

The workshop provided a platform for participants to share experience and knowledge in the implementation of the Stockholm Convention. The main objective is harmonization of POPs monitoring approaches, sampling and analytical protocols, risk assessment methodology and data comparability, laying the foundation for future regional collaboration on POPs.
