3. What is the Stockholm Convention on POPs?

The Stockholm Convention on POPs is a global treaty to protect human health and the environment from the potentially harmful effects of POPs. Parties to the Convention will take measures to control/restrict the trade, domestic production and use of intentionally produced POPs, and to reduce, and where possible to ultimately eliminate, the production and release of unintentionally produced POPs by-products. As of the Tenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Stockholm Convention, there are 31 POPs currently listed in the Convention.
