Influence of Livestock Farms (Pig and Poultry) on Watercourses - Yuen Long West

Most livestock farms in Yuen Long West District are located in the catchments of two major watercourses, Tin Shui Wai Nullah and Yuen Long Creek. The others are scattered in Lau Fau Shan area.

Tin Shui Wai Nullah

Tin Shui Wai Nullah is a concrete channel running through the whole Tin Shui Wai New Town and eventually draining into inner DeepBay. It has three tributaries, namely, stream at Ha Tsuen, Shek Po Channel and Tin Sam Channel. It covers a catchment area of 16 km2, with a total stretch of 27 km in length. The major pollution sources were illegal discharges from livestock farms (pig farms) and discharge from unsewered villages in the catchment.

Yuen Long Creek

Yuen Long Creek is around 60 km long and covers an area of 27 km2. It passes through YuenLongTown before flowing into inner DeepBay. The major pollution sources were illegal discharges from livestock farms and discharge from unsewered villages in the catchment.

Lau Fau Shan - Ngau Hom Sha Section

The Ngau Hom Sha section of Lau Fau Shan receives discharge from pig farms.
