Improvement
to Ying Yip Road & Silverstrand Beach Road
The
project involved widening of Silverstrand Beach Road and Ying
Yip Road by cutting back the slopes along the two roads.
Environmental Concern
Since
the project involved extensive cutting of slopes, improper
handling of exposed earth would result in substantial fugitive
dust emissions and muddy water discharges.
Measures Adopted
Dust
Cover and Treatment - The exposed earth was covered
and followed by hydro-seeding to prevent fugitive dust emissions
and discharge of muddy water due to erosion during rainy seasons.

Cover up of exposed earth with
impervious plastic sheets followed by hydroseeding effectively
prevented the emission of fugitive dust and discharge
of muddy water. |

Observations
& Achievements
Large
pieces of tarpaulin were used to cover up the exposed earth
prior to the application of hydro-seeding on the slopes. This
had effectively prevented the emission of fugitive dust and
discharge of muddy water.
