Construction
of Houses at Sam Mun Tsai, Ting Kok, Tai Po
This
was a low-density residential development providing 300 houses
altogether. The site sat on a platform abutting on Sha Lan
Villa at Ting Kok, Tai Po with village houses lining the boundary
of the construction site. The works comprised site formation,
mini-piling and superstructure construction.
Environmental
Concern
The
site were surrounded by the Sha Lan Villa and the Tung
Wah Group - Wu York Yu Old Aged Home. Construction dust
arising from exposed dusty materials, drilling, rock-breaking
and traffic on the haul road were the major concern
of environmental pollution to these nearby residents. |

Measures
Adopted
Watering
- All breaking and cutting of rocks and concrete were conducted
in accompany with spraying of water, and all main haul roads
were wetted by water tanker several times a day.
Recycling
- PVC pipes were installed along main haul roads to spray
recycled water arising from mini-piling work.
Dust
Control - Prolonged exposed earth were shotcreted
or hydroseeded. Hoarding and dust screens were erected to
screen potential dust sources from nearby sensitive receptors.
Training
- Internal training was provided to the workers to strengthen
their awareness to avoid polluting the environment.
Monitoring
- Additional monitoring of the above measures were conducted
to ensure proper implementation.

Observations
& Achievements
The
construction site is contiguous to nearby residential premises.
With the above dust control measures implemented, dust emission
were effectively reduced and both the nearby residents and
people working at the site were benefited from the measures
undertaken.
