Residential
Development at Shui Pin Wai, Yuen Long
The
project was a private low density residential development at Shui Pin
Wai, Yuen Long.
Environmental Concern
Discharge
of muddy water arising from bored piling into the nullah and the surface
drain was the major concern. Local residents from the nearby traditional
villages had also expressed concern on possible flooding due to blockage
of nullah at rainy season.

Measures
Adopted
Treatment
- To eliminate impact from muddy water discharge, a chemically enhanced
wastewater treatment facility was installed in addition to a series of
sedimentation tanks to treat the muddy wastewater generated from piling
works and wheel washing activities.

Observations
& Achievements
After
the installation of the chemically enhanced wastewater treatment plant,
the wastewater discharge made by the construction site was satisfactory.
The open nullah was relatively free from silting discharge. Subsequent
self-monitoring reports submitted by the licensed contractor indicated
that the suspended solids content of treated effluent was in the range
of 8 to 12 mg/L, which is lower than the licensed discharge limit, i.e.
30 mg/L.
