project included site formation and slope stabilisation at sections
of the Foothill Bypass in Tuen Mun Area 19 (Pak Kok).

Part
of the construction site was located in the hinterland of
Butterfly Beach, one of the most popular bathing beaches in
the Northwestern region. Discharge of effluent arising from
the construction activities, to the Castle Peak Bay area and
the Butterfly Beach were major concerns. |

- Additional settling tank were provided to treat the wheel-washing
effluent arising from the site.
Administration
- On-site supervision was strengthened to ensure that all
the effluent generated was treated and the treatment facilities
were maintained in good working condition. |

Observations
& Achievements
The
quality of the discharge from the wheel-washing facilities was improved
following the addition of settling tank, providing adequate protection
to the downstream beaches.
