EPD convictions in August

Eighty-four convictions were recorded in August 2016 for breaches of legislation enforced by the Environmental Protection Department (EPD).

Fifteen of the convictions were under the Air Pollution Control Ordinance, 15 were under the Noise Control Ordinance, 53 were under the Waste Disposal Ordinance, and one was under the Water Pollution Control Ordinance.

The heaviest penalty in August was assessed against a person that stored chemical waste in unsuitable containers and failed to display warning panel, who was sentenced to two weeks’ imprisonment and suspended for 12 months.
