Community Awareness

The Hong Kong Awards for Environmental Excellence will be launched to encourage businesses and organisations to adopt green management.

Air / Cross-boundary and International Co-operation

The study on Air Quality Objectives will be completed by the end of 2008 and will be followed by a comprehensive public engagement exercise.
An amendment will be proposed to the Air Pollution Control Ordinance to cap emissions from power plants from 2010 and enable power plants to engage in emissions trading.
A study will begin on climate change in Hong Kong to identify further efforts to combat climate change.
A five-year Cleaner Production Partnership Programme will be launched for Hong Kong-owned factories in the Pearl River Delta region.
The Hazardous Chemicals Control Ordinance will come into operation.

Noise

Work will continue to progressively retrofit noise barriers and carry out a trial of low noise road surfaces on selected road sections.

Waste

The results of a site search for integrated waste management facilities will be announced.
920 housing estates and buildings will be enlisted in the Programme on Source Separation of Domestic Waste by the end of 2008.
A Product Eco-responsibility Bill will be introduced in the Legislative Council.

Water

A study on co-use of land for the proposed HATS Stage 2B site will commence.
Approval will be sought for the HATS Stage 2A environmental impact assessment.
Construction will start on disinfection facilities for the Stonecutters Island Sewage Treatment Works.

Nature Conservation

A decision will be made on six applications received under the Pilot Scheme for Public-Private Partnership that allows applicants to develop less ecologically sensitive areas of a site while committing to long-term conservation management of the remainder.
