Contribution to Strategic Decision-making
  • To manage the strategic environmental assessment (SEA) for Hong Kong 2030: Planning, Vision and Strategy in order to ensure environmental considerations are fully integrated in the long-term strategic planning of Hong Kong.
  • Commenced SEA Study and provided environmental input. The first Environmental Study Management Group meeting was held in December 2001.

  • To continue promoting the application of SEAs to major government policies and proposals which might have major environmental implications.
  • Processed seven SEAs in 2001, some on-going, which facilitated project proponents in integrating environmental considerations at the earliest possible stage. Four SEA reports were ready to be uploaded onto EPD's Website for easy reference.

  • To provide environmental information to the future Sustainable Development Unit to update and manage the environmental database of the Sustainable Development System developed under SUSDEV21.
  • Provided information for updating baseline values of relevant environmental indicators.

  • To issue guidance material and conduct seminars for the private sector to encourage them to go further in environmental performance reporting.
  • Completed in September 2001.
Prevention and Mitigation through Environmental Impact Assessment
  • To allow public access to environmental monitoring and audit information of major development projects through the Internet by 2001.
  • Funding of $4.40M for the project implementation was approved in August 2001. Tender was awarded in September 2001.
