To address the indiscriminate use of plastic shopping bags, the environmental levy scheme on plastic shopping bags has commenced since 7 July 2009. Chain or large supermarkets, convenience stores, and personal health and beauty product stores would be required to charge 50 cents for each plastic shopping bag provided to customers. Customers should bring their own shopping bags at all time to avoid the levy. For details of the environmental levy scheme, please click here.
