The regulatory control on motor vehicle biodiesel has become effective since 1 July 2010. It stipulates the requirements for the quality of pure motor vehicle biodiesel and motor vehicle biodiesel blends, and a labelling requirement for selling biodiesel blend having a biodiesel content over 5%. To safeguard public health, the Government will implement the Clinical Waste Control Scheme in early 2011 to ensure clinical waste is handled and disposed of in an environmentally sound and safe manner. Under the Control Scheme, clinical waste producers (e.g. hospitals and clinics) will have to employ licensed waste collectors to collect and transport their clinical waste for treatment and disposal at the Chemical Waste Treatment Centre. Two sets of Code of Practice are issued today (June 18) to provide guidance to clinical waste producers and collectors on the handling and management of clinical waste. EPD and FEHD worked in collaboration to place waste separation bins in most village-type refuse collection points so as to encourage residents in rural areas to participate in source separation of waste. The Programme is supported by the Heung Yee Kuk and Rural Committees. Various promotion activities have been launched.
