Environmental assessment of development plans.

Nature and Scope of the Proposal

Two new towns, with a total population of 250,000 over an area of 750 ha and the new Chek Lap Kok airport site of 1,000 hectares.

Basis of SEA Requirement

The Government directive in 1988 requiring plans to be subject to environmental assessment.

Relationship with Decision Making

The findings of the SEA form the basis of decisions on the land use plan.


Alternatives or Options Assessed

Four concept plans were evaluated and ranked.

Methods and Techniques

Environmental appraisal criteria incorporated in land use options generation. Water quality, aerial and noise modellings were conducted.

Latest Status

Various parts of the New Town are in different stages of development.
