Advisory on Rainfall Effect Rainfall is a major factor affecting beach water quality. Heavy rain may flush pollutants from beach hinterlands into the water causing sudden deterioration of beach water quality. Beaches with inadequate provision of sewerage in the hinterlands are particularly vulnerable to the effect of rainfall. Heavy rainfall may affect the beach water quality for up to 3 days. Bathers are advised to avoid swimming at beaches during and for up to 3 days after heavy rain. It is also advisable to check the notices at beaches for updated information before swimming. Leisure and Cultural Services Department has also erected rainfall advisory signs at beaches to remind bathers.
