MITIGATION MEASURES

Construction Phase

Exposed soil areas will be minimised to reduce the contamination of runoff and erosion.
Perimeter channels will be constructed in advance of site formation works and earthworks.  Intercepting channels will be provided along the edge of excavation works.
Silt removal facilities, channels and manholes should be maintained. The deposited silt and grit should be removed regularly to ensure that they are functioning properly at all times.
Temporary covers such as tarpaulin will be provided to minimise the generation of high SS runoff.
Any oil and grease in the surface runoff will be intercepted through the oil interceptors.
All sewer and drains will be sealed to prevent building debris and soil from entering public sewers/drains before the commencement of any demolition works.

Operation/Restoration Phase

Regular maintenance and replacement if required, of the High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) liner to prevent degradation from affecting the performance of the capping system.
Regular inspection of groundwater monitoring wells and the groundwater collection sumps.
Regular inspection and repairs for leachate pump houses and related ancillary equipments.
Preventive maintenance of the LTP to prevent necessary shutdown especially during dry season.
Establishment of emergency procedures or a contingency plan for incidence during LTP malfunctioning.

Aftercare Phase

Maintenance and replacement of the capping system, if necessary, to prevent leachate seepage from damaged caps.
