The super Typhoon Mangkhut has caused massive amount of marine refuse washed up on beaches and shorelines in Hong Kong. The joint efforts of many community members and volunteers in clearing refuse at coastlines to help restore the natural environment are much appreciated. We, together with over 150 volunteers and students conducted a joint cleanup event at Silverstrand Beach on 22 September. The Secretary for the Environment, the Under Secretary for the Environment as well as representatives of relevant departments also participated in the event to show support to the community-government efforts. More than 150 volunteers and students participated in clearing refuse at the beach, with a total of about 1 250 kg of refuse collected.
