Safety is ABC
Used or contaminated sharps can easily cause injury to frontline workers that collect clinical waste and must be properly contained. When handling sharp waste at your premises, you are suggested to implement “ABC” safety precautions as are necessary to prevent danger to public health or safety.
A Assemble
- Properly assemble a sharps container that meets BS7320 Standard, or equivalent, according to manufacturer instruction. Check and ensure that the lid and base are firmly locked into position and the assembly is secure and complete.
- Place sharps waste into sharps containers only. Do not put sharps into plastic bag.

B Below maximum line
- Only fill sharps container to below the maximum line
C Close tight
- Firmly seal the sharps container with the proprietary closure
- Mark or tag the producer name and date of closure on the container
- Store the sealed sharps container in a dedicated cabinet and lock it up to await waste collection
