ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION DEPARTMENT
Pollution Control Officer [Salary: HK$45,785 per month]
Entry Requirements: Applicants should have: –
(a) a Hong Kong first or second class honours Bachelor degree in Mechanical / Electrical / Automotive / Environmental / Chemical Engineering, or equivalent;
(b) minimum four years’ relevant full-time post-qualifications working experience in vehicle emissions testing using dynamometer or portable emissions measurement system, vehicle emission control projects, data analysis or related areas;
(c) good command of spoken and written Chinese and English; and
(d) good command of data handling skills.
Duties:
(a) To conduct experimental studies on the application of remote sensing equipment to measure vehicle emissions;
(b) To design and conduct experiments on measuring vehicle emissions using chassis dynamometers;
(c) To conduct data analysis related to vehicle emission measurements;
(d) To assist the development of quality control system for the remote sensing measurements on vehicle emissions; and
(e) To conduct emission repair benefit studies on diesel vehicles.
Other Job-related Requirements: The hours and venues of work may be varied having regard to the operational needs of the department. The successful candidate may be required to (a) work irregular hours and overtime, including evenings, weekends and public holidays; and (b) work outside office including outdoors and remote working locations.
Terms of Appointment: The successful candidate will be appointed on non-civil service contract terms for one year.
Fringe Benefits: 14 days paid annual leave will be granted to the successful candidate. The eligibility for rest days, statutory holidays (or substitute holidays), maternity / paternity leave and sickness allowance, where appropriate, is in line with those provided for under the Employment Ordinance. A gratuity may be granted at the end of the contract period if the contract is satisfactorily completed with consistently high standard of performance and conduct. Such gratuity, if granted, plus any contribution made by the Government to a Mandatory Provident Fund (MPF) Scheme in respect of the appointee as required by the MPF Schemes Ordinance, will be equal to 15% of the total basic salary received during the contract period.
