Background
In order to ensure and maintain the competence in vehicle emission measurement using Portable Emission Measurement Systems (PEMS), the Environmental Protection Department (EPD) has established a certification system for operators of vehicle emission measurements using PEMS.
A “Certificate for the Operation of PEMS” will be valid for two (2) years from the date of issue.
EPD’s tenders/quotations for vehicle emission measurement using PEMS may require the operators of the bidders to have this certificate to prove their competence.
Any person who attends and passes EPD’s written and practical examinations will be awarded the Certificate for the Operation of PEMS.
Any person who wishes to attend the written and practical examinations shall complete and return the reply slip at Annex A
before the deadline specified in the reply slip. Candidates should read the detailed information on the written and practical examinations in the “Requirements of Examinations” and “Instructions to Candidates” at Annex B before attending the examinations.
EPD also provides training / practice sessions of using PEMS units and their accessories periodically under the supervision of the EPD’s representative. The training / practice sessions, written and practical examinations will take place at PEMS Laboratory at 27 Tam Kon Shan Road, Tsing Yi, New Territories, Hong Kong.
The date and time of coming training / practice sessions, written and practical examinations of using PEMS are as follows:
Examinations:
Written examination: 10:30 a.m., 18 July 2024 (Thursday); and
Practical examination: any date between 18 and 22 July 2024 (the confirmed date and time for the practical examination will be allocated to individual candidates).
Training / Practice sessions:
Date: 10-12 July, 2024
Time: 9:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.
* Anyone is welcome to attend the above on condition that it will not affect EPD’s normal operation.
