Project Description The project covers six streams in the NWNT including Mo Fan Heung Stream, Wing Kei Tsuen Stream, Sha Po Tsuen Stream, Nam Hang Drainage Channel, Small Traders New Village Stream and Wai Tsai/Mai Po Channel; and three rivers and their tributaries in NENT including the River Indus, Beas and Ganges. It involves the construction of new channels and the modification of existing ones by enlargement, straightening and removal of obstructions.

 

Recommended environmentally friendly design measures of channels

The measures include (Figures 11 and 12),

 

  1. the use of varied bank materials other than concrete such as provision of fabric geotextile reinforced grass lining at side slopes;
  2. replanting, preferably with native species, along the new channel banks;
  3. retention of abandoned meanders; and
  4. creation of aquatic planting bays at channel base of the new river channels.
