Appendix A General Regulation 740 (GR740)

GR740 States
"(1) It is the responsibility of all officers to ensure that no trees are unnecessarily lopped or cut down. When such work is necessary, permission should be sought through the appropriate officer as follows:-
  (i) Inrespect of all Crown Lands,
except as in (ii)
 
) Director of Agriculture
) and fisheries
  (ii) In Hong Kong Island, Kowloon &
New Kowloon and New Territories in respect of :
)
)director of Urban
) services or
    (a) the grounds of quarters, offices and other
government establishments
 
) Director of Regional
) Services
) (as appropriate)
    (b)
 
roadside trees
 
)
(3) Permission to lop or cut down any trees will not be granted unless good cause is shown.
(4) Whenever possible, permission should be sought 12 months in advance so that the root system of any tree suitable for transplanting may be prepared for the move."
