The Environmental Protection Department (EPD) has launched the “Glass Container Recycling Charter” (the “Charter”) and invites all interested parties in the community to become our Partners to participate actively in and jointly promote glass container recycling.

  • Facilitate different sectors in the community to actively participate in glass container recycling.

  1. About 100,000 tonnes of waste glass containers are disposed of at the landfills each year. Waste glass containers are chemically inert and stable, which can hardly decompose and biodegrade thus occupying landfills permanently and depleting valuable landfill space.
  2. Participation in glass container recycling can help ease the burden on the landfills and turn waste glass containers into reusable resources which can contribute to the sustainable development of Hong Kong.
  3. We can play a useful part to reduce waste at source, support clean recycling of glass containers for the benefit of our community and contribute to achieving progressively overall recovery target of 50,000 tonnes of waste glass containers a year, which is about half of their amount generated.

In order to contribute to supporting glass container recycling in the community, the signee commits to –

  1. Practising source separation and clean recycling of waste glass containers;
  2. Making suitable arrangement and engaging the free services of the Government appointed Glass Management Contractors for collection of the separated waste glass containers for proper recycling and treatment; and
