Drainage Services Department (DSD) has awarded a $51M ground investigation contract for HATS Stage 2A on 14 November 2006. This is the first of two major ground investigation contracts planned for the project and marks a significant step forward for the investigation and design of the sewage conveyance system which will intercept and convey sewage from the northern and southwestern parts of Hong Kong Island to Stonecutters Island for treatment.
Under this contract, some 40 vertical and inclined boreholes will be sunk at the proposed shaft locations. Continuous rock samples along the tunnel alignment at strategic locations will also be obtained by directional coring techniques. This ground information will be used for the detailed design of the shafts and tunnels.
