Beach Water Quality Improvement Works - Tuen Mun District

Beach Water Quality Improvement Works - Tuen Mun District

A trunk foul sewer was constructed along the Castle Peak Road from So Kwun Wat to Sam Shing Estate in 1993. Discharges from the hinterlands of all the six beaches in Tuen Mun are now under control and there is no direct discharge into the beach area. Works recommended in the Tuen Mun Sewerage Master Plan (SMP) also included further trunk sewer extension and sewerage provision to the villages. Sewage from the Tuen Mun New Town is being pumped to the Pillar Point Sewage Screening Plant for treatment and then discharged via a submarine outfall. The old submarine outfall at Pillar Point has already been replaced by a new outfall of 2 km in length in February 1999. Treated effluent is now discharged further away from the bathing beaches. A review of the SMP has been completed and plans for upgrading works are being developed.
