Operation of Refuse Chute/ARCS
Problem
Impacting noise
Relevant Env. Control Under the Noise Control Ordinance, Cap. 400, the owner, tenant, occupier or person in charge of the place other than domestic premises, a public place or a construction site should not emanate noise over the statutory noise standard or limit.
Practical Solutions
Avoid using refuse chute or ARCS during noise sensitive hours, such as early morning and midnight hours
Avoid the use of refuse chute for hard objects and fragile glass
Install rubber pad/lining to the metal door of the refuse chute loader at domestic floors to avoid impact noise when closing
Install noise barrier, enclosure or silencers at the exhaust outlet of refuse station

Practical Solutions
Locate the refuse station away from domestic premises
Reserve an enclosed /covered area for the parking of refuse collection vehicle to contain noise from refuse loading and unloading activities
Avoid loading and unloading of refuse to refuse collection vehicle in noise sensitive hours, such as early morning and midnight hours
Install noise barrier, enclosure or silencers at the exhaust outlet of refuse station
