Reasons for Implementing ISO 14001

As one of the leading construction companies in Hong Kong, Shui On always strives for excellence. In light of this, environmental protection becomes one of our major concerns that we regard as an essential part in practising our good corporate citizenship.

In order to exercise environmental protection for all our building operations, we need an organized approach to set up an effective management system. Therefore, we decide to establish an Environmental Management System based on the ISO 14001 standard requirements. With the implementation of this ISO standard, we will continuously improve our environmental performance and enable our operations to be in line with our company's mission and the spirit of Total Quality Management.

Benefits of ISO 14001 Certification

The ISO 14001 facilitates us in implementing environmental protection for construction in several ways:

  1. The Environmental Management System incorporates the environmental concerns into site planning such that environmental aspects and statutory compliance can be considered during site setup period. Cost for extra labour and time can be greatly reduced because any problems anticipated can be tackled at the construction design stage.
  2. The Environmental Management Programme maintained under the Environmental Management System enables sites to develop their own measures for continuous improvement. This allows flexibility and stimulates more innovative ideas at the operational levels, especially in the areas of resources conservation and waste reduction.
  3. The implementation of the ISO 14001 requires involvement from top management to operational staff, including subcontractors about the environmental issues. Such commitment highly benefits the green image of our company which help build up client's credibility and public reputation.

All of these add values to our process control and engineering, which enhance the cost-effectiveness in our operations.

With the ISO 14001, we aim at safeguarding the environmental conditions around our sites and stick to the principle of continuous improvement. By continuously upgrading our environmental performance, we hope to eliminate pollution in the long run so that our future generations will be able to enjoy a pollution-free environment.
