Why ISO 14001 Certified? Answers from those who were certified

HOUSING DEPARTMENT - DEVELOPMENT AND CONSTRUCTION DIVISION

 Logo of HOUSING DEPARTMENT

As a socially responsible major player in the construction industry, the Development & Construction Division of the Housing Department is committed to improving our environmental performance with a proactive Environmental Management System (EMS).

Adopting the ISO 14001 EMS framework provides a good opportunity for us to enhance our EMS using an internationally recognized systematic and structured approach to identify and evaluate environmental aspects and to improve environmental performance. It can also enable us to align the EMS with the Quality Management System in terms of document control, record control, handling of non-conforming product, auditing, and corrective and preventive actions, all resulting in better management of the systems and providing a holistic view for the Management with an integrated management system.

The Development & Construction Division of the Housing Department obtained ISO 14001 certification in June 2009.

On top, as a further measure to promote environmental management systems, we have required our Quality Maintenance Contractors, and NewWorksBuilding and Piling Contractors to gain ISO 14001 certification before April 2009. This requirement is also extended to all building services contractors, demolition contractors, and suppliers of major building materials and components who have to obtain ISO 14001 certification before April 2011.
