CARE FOR OUR FUTURE

Electricity is an indispensable part of modern life, yet one with implications for the environment. As a company and as individuals, we are committed to supplying electricity not only reliably and in accordance with regulations, but in a way that meets Hong Kong's balanced environmental, economic and social needs.

CARING FOR THE ENVIRONMENT

At CLP Power, safety, health and care for the environment are core corporate values and are integrated into every aspect of our operations. We constantly strive for excellence and have achieved the following over the last 10 years:

  • Emission of sulphur dioxide and nitrogen oxides reduced by about 70%
  • Emission of carbon dioxide per unit of electricity reduced by about 30%
  • Our Water Collection and Conservation System reduced water consumption of 1 million cubic metres per year
  • Ash recycled for industrial and construction applications

These and other achievements have won awards for us, including the 1996 and 1998 Hong Kong Awards for Industry's PSCE Performance Award. In 1999, we also won the prestigious 1999 Hong Kong Award for Industry - Environmental Performance.

ISO I4001 CERTIFICATION

We believe that the certification offers us the following benefits:

  • Endorsing our commitment to minimising the possible impacts of our activities on the environment
  • Independent verification of the effectiveness of our management systems and processes
  • Placing us on par with the best in the world

LOOKING AHEAD

Looking ahead, we will strengthen our integrated approach to safety, health and environmental issues, adopt best practices to minimize consumption and waste, and contribute more to social and community programmes. We will also continue to encourage full staff participation.
