North District

River Beas

Running down from Pat Heung of Yuen Long District and across the Hang Tau Tai Po area of North District, River Beas is a tributary of River Indus. Many of its catchment areas are unsewered. Its water quality ranges from good to fair or even poor, influenced by discharge from the 7 farms (2 pig farms and 5 chicken farms) in its catchment area.

According to the Livestock Keeping Licences issued by Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department, the pig farms and chicken farms in the River Beas catchment area can rear about 4,800 pigs and 66,500 chickens.

River Beas can be broadly divided into two major sections:
