Tin: Shek Wu Wai section
The stream at Shek Wu Wai receives discharges from 15 pig farms, with a total pig population of about 33,000. The stream is seriously polluted. Streamwater of the Shek Wu Wai catchment converges to a channel at the north side of the catchment and flows northwesterly to a marsh area. The EPD has received frequent complaints against the pollution nuisances generated from the pig farms in the Shek Wu Wai area in the past few years.
Since 2001, there were 12 convictions against the farms in this river section under the Waste Disposal Ordinance and the Waste Disposal (Livestock Waste) Regulations. In the Year 2006, 4 public complaints were received and 131 inspections were conducted to these farms.
