Tin Shui Wai Nullah is a concrete channel running through the whole Tin Shui Wai New Town and eventually draining into inner Deep Bay. It has three tributaries, namely, stream at Ha Tsuen, Shek Po Channel and Tin Sam Channel. It covers a catchment area of 16 km2, with a total stretch of 27 km in length. The major pollution sources were illegal discharges from 11 livestock farms (pig farms) and discharge from unsewered villages in the catchment.
According to the Livestock Keeping Licences issued by Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department, the 11 livestock farms can rear a total maximum stock size of about 20,200 pigs.
