I. Objectives

To facilitate residents in housing estates to separate recyclables at source.

To broaden the types of recyclables, further reduce waste and enhance recovery rate.

To arouse the environmental awareness of residents in public and private housing estates.
II. Introduction
The Environmental Protection Department (EPD) organizes the Programme on Source Separation of Waste. The Super 3R Competition in Housing Estates will be held from April 2005 to March 2006.
This Programme aims at encouraging residents to separate recyclables at source by setting up collection point of recyclables on each floor of the estate/building. By broadening the types of recyclable to waste paper, metals, plastics and other recyclables, we can further reduce waste and enhance the recovery rate. Other recyclables such as old clothing, electrical appliances and computers can also be collected regularly.
III. Competition Details
In the Super 3R Competition, prizes will be awarded bi-annually to encourage the housing estates participating in the competition. All winning estates will be invited to the awarding ceremony. The details of the awards are as follows:
1) Best Total Recyclable Rate (Champion, 1st Runner-up, 2nd Runner-up and 10 Merit awards)
2) Best Paper Recyclable Rate Award
3) Best Metals Recyclable Rate Award
4) Best Plastics Recyclable Rate Award
5) Best Old Clothing Recyclable Rate Award
