Letter to the Editor of SCMP - Response to a letter entitled "Deafening Silence" (September 26)
I refer to the letter “Deafening Silence” by Gareth Jones dated September 26, 2007 concerning the idling coaches outside Aberdeen Sports Ground.
Last month, Environmental Protection Department received separately the same complaint about idling coaches outside Aberdeen Sports Ground. Despite the lack of a statutory ban against idling vehicles running their engines, we, as part of our educational effort, visited the location and advised the drivers idling there with running engines to switch off their engines. Most of them listened to our advice and switched off their engines.
Thank you for your interest and we look forward to your continuous support in tackling the issue in Hong Kong.
Thomas Chau
Environmental Protection Department
