Letter to the Editor of The Standard - Response to a letter on Wanchai Environmental Resource Centre

I refer to Dr David Lee's letter to the Editor headlined "Left Cold By Air-con Use" of 20 April 2010.

At the time of visit by Dr Lee, a guided tour was being conducted for a group of 34 visitors in the interactive learning room of Wanchai Environmental Resource Centre (WCERC). The air conditioner was switched on at a lower temperature than 25.5 degree Celsius in response to a request by the group of visitors who had already stayed in the relatively congested room for an hour and would like to increase the ventilation of the room.

“Save energy” is always one of the green measures adopted at the WCERC. Our normal practice is to keep the door next to the garden open and switch on the fans (including the fan from the air conditioner) to ensure good ventilation in the WCERC. We only switch on the air conditioning when the temperature is above 25.5 degree Celsius or when the humidity is high or when ventilation of air in the Centre is poor.

Thank you for your attention to the above matter.
