161 convicted pollution cases in October

A total of 161 convictions were recorded in October for breaching anti-pollution legislation enforced by the Environmental Protection Department.

Among them, 54 were convictions made under the Air Pollution Ordinance, 40 under the Noise Control Ordinance, 38 under the Waste Disposal Ordinance and 29 under the Water Pollution Control Ordinance.

The heaviest fine was $75,000.

A company was fined $75,000 last month for failing to carry out prescribed construction work in designated area without a valid permit.
