Trunk Sewer System Proposed for Hung Shui Kiu

The Environmental Protection Department published in the Gazette today (Friday) a plan to build a trunk sewer system at the unsewered area of Hung Shui Kiu of Yuen Long.

The new sewerage system will effectively reduce pollutants currently discharged to nearby watercourses and bring improvements to the sanitary conditions of the area, a spokesman for the Environmental Protection Department said.

The proposed project will collect sewage generated from existing village houses and future residential and commercial developments for an estimated population of about 40,000.

The works, which will take about two years, are scheduled to start in early 1999.

Details of the plan, in both English and Chinese, have been put up on the notice boards for public inspection near the site of the proposed sewerage works.

Copies of the plan and the scheme showing the works area and the proposed sewerage works are available for inspection at the following locations:-
