Project Details:
A renovation project to build a new corporate office and workshop on a previously conventional looking office building of which the structure, exterior intact and gutting were left while the whole interior was remodeled.
Waste Minimisation Measures Highlights:
Planning for waste reduction
- Design to maximise material reuse
- Use of hand demolition to preserve materials for reuse and recycling
Waste management
- Allocate areas to store items that intended for remodel
- Store easily damaged materials properly
- Serve unwanted piled studs as "free wood" for recycle use
- Transport doors and interior windows to recyclers for reuse
- Salvage items such as doors, casings, hardware and plumbing accessories
Outcomes:
- Cost savings of approximately US$6,500
- 42% recycling rate of materials
- 24 tonnes of materials being recycled or salvaged
