The project involved the replacement of the underground drainage pipes along Nathan Road to prevent flooding during rainy seasons.
Environmental Concern
The work area was about 5 km long and there were commercial shops along the Nathan Road next to the work area. The construction dust arising from road breaking, earth excavation, sewer replacement and road re-surfacing was a major concern of shop owners and passers-by.

Measures
Adopted
Water
Spraying - All dusty materials and areas where excavation or
earth-moving works carried out were wetted by water spraying.
Administration
- All excavated materials were removed as soon as possible.
Dust
Cover - Dust screens were provided to cover the site boundary.
Monitoring
- Site foremen were deployed to monitor the implementation of measures
required.

spray was applied to road-breaking work
Dust screen was used for earth-moving works
Observations
& Achievements
Nathan Road was a very busy street with many commercial shops and passers-by. Any dust emission from the working area would cause nuisance. Through wetting the site regularly and on area where mechanical breaking was carried out, the construction works progressed smoothly without causing serious dust problem to the nearby occupiers and the passers-by.
