Vehicle Washing Facilities at Hung Hom Bay

This was a construction project at the KCRC boundary at Hung Hom. Cargo containers and lorries drove from the KCRC Freight Yard at Hung Hom through this construction site to Cheong Tung Road.

Environmental Concern

There were a lot of vehicles passing through the KCRC Freight Yard. Dust generation and mud deposition onto nearby roads from the passing vehicles were the main environmental concerns.

Fugitive dust emission took place when trucks leaving site

Measures Adopted

Watering - A vehicle-washing basin was built to wash every vehicle that left the site, and the main haul road was wetted to suppress fugitive dust from the moving traffic.

Administration - All bypass exits were blocked to prevent any vehicle from leaving the site without washing. Workers were deployed to ensure that all vehicles were thoroughly washed before leaving the site.
