Site Formation at Heung Fan Liu Street, Tai Wai

This was an extensive site formation project involving the building of roads & drains inside the site with an area of about 10 hectare at Heung Fan Liu Street, Tai Wai.

Environmental Concern

Noting the noise sensitive receptors at Tai Wai San Tsuen was less than 20 m from the construction site, potential noise & dust nuisance, especially during blasting and excavations, were the major environmental concerns.

Measures Adopted

Quiet Method - Noise barriers and hoarding were erected along the site boundary to abate both dust & noise impact.

Treatment - automatic water spraying system were set up for dust suppression and the blasting area was enclosed by impervious sheeting.

Monitoring - A monitoring system was set up to review the impact of the construction noise and dust emissions from the site.

Training - Internal training was provided to the workers to strengthen their awareness to avoid polluting the environment.

Observations & Achievements

Although the site was very large, part of it was indeed rather close to dwellings. Noise barriers erected along the boundary facing Tai Wai San Tsuen helped reduce the noise disturbance whereas water spraying and hoarding were useful to suppress dust emissions during earth works.
