Yuen
Long KCRC Station
The
project involved the construction of 73 large piles at the size of 2.5
m in diameter and greater than 350cu.m. and up to 600cu.m. in volume,
for the building of the new KCRC station at Yuen Long Centre.
Environmental Concern
The site was located adjacent to Sun Yuen Long Centre, a high-rise residential complex, and Nam Pin Wai, a village settlement. As the concreting of such piles could not be halted midway, a pour of these diameter piles would take approximately 24 hours to complete. Continuous round-the-clock noise was the key environmental concern.
Measures Adopted
Enclosure
- A partial enclosure using tenths of 20 ft containers and PVC curtains
was formed to screen off the discharge of concrete from the mixer truck
to reduce the noise impact.
Partnering
and Administration - The contractor also informed the nearby
residents in writing in advance of the concreting work to establish good
communication channel with the public.
Monitoring
- The works was closely monitored to ensure it started at 7 am sharp so
that the 12 hours of daytime was fully utilised before running into the
restricted hours.
