Road Repair Work

The road repair work was carried out at the junction of Cheong Wan Road and the podium of KCR Hung Hom Station.

Environmental Concern

In view of the heavy traffic, it was impossible to carry out the works through lane-by-lane closure at the junction during the daytime. Eventhough the closest noise sensitive receivers, i.e. the residential buildings on Winslow Street, were about 280 m away from the work area, the noise generated from the electric handheld breaker and the petrol concrete saw during the night-time noise sensitive hours was a major concern.

Measures Adopted

Enclosure - To minimise the noise impact, a double enclosure made of steel with the inner shed lined with a 50 mm thick sound absorbing material was fabricated to minimise the noise impact from the road-breaking work.

Observations & Achievements

Without any mitigation measure, the noise level from the electric handheld breaker & the concrete saw would be about 60dB(A) at the noise sensitive receivers identified. Such night time operation would seriously affect the residents. Through adoption of the double enclosure, the residents at Winslow Street were protected. No complaints were received against noise from the works.
